The museum began as a product of maritime archaeology, with material recovered from two Dutch shipwrecks discovered in 1963 off the Western Australian coast, the Batavia (1629) and the Vergulde Draeck (Gilt Dragon) (1653). Newer arrivals from Afghanistan, Sudan and East Timor have taken this opportunity to deal with their traumatic pasts and migrant journeys by exhibiting their stories and material culture. As always, the teaching of history involves choices. ICCMS 2017 will be published by ACM, which will be archived in the ACM Digital Library, and indexed by Ei Compendex and Scopus and submitted to be reviewed by Thomson Reuters Conference Proceedings Citation Index (ISI Web of Science).
