Since then, both the Nigerian Criminal Code and the Northern Nigerian Penal Code have added many amendments to reflect the norms, values, and standards of the Nigerian people. (One result of having the Nigerian Criminal Code based on the English Common Law tradition was the criminalization of some of the Nigerian customs.
