In 1915 this was the correct name for the nearby peak of Achi Baba and the village itself was known as Kirte Köyü. Two miles beyond the last house the road bends sharply and drops down a hill before passing the gate of Skew Bridge Cemetery. A short distance beyond this another road cuts back sharply to the left, signposted to the Motel Abide and the Çanakkale Sehitler Abidesi, the imposing Turkish Memorial set on the shores of the Dardanelles. Unsignposted, it also leads to S Beach and the French cemetery above Morto Bay.
