Air Force Academy. The Air Force decided in 1956 to have its own distinctive parachute badge after previously using the Army parachute badge. The badges were designed in the shield style of the USAF medical badges and had a white open parachute against a blue and white background. The senior badge bore a star centered atop the badge while the master badge has a star centered on a silver scroll above the shield. Qualifications for the badges were the same as for the Army parachute badges. The Air Force discontinued the badges in 1963 and reverted back to the Army parachutists badges.

Recruiters who had received the older style badge had them replaced with the high gloss version after January 1, 1995. Successive awards of this badge are denoted by a star on the top of the badge with a number that denotes the total cumulative number of times an individual has earned the senior badge. When the squadron's Rookie Recruiter of the year receives the senior badge, he will be awarded a badge with the letter "R" instead ofa "I". The MASTER (GOLD) RECRUITER BADGE is awarded annually to a unit's top recruiter.

A member of the Reserve Components who is assigned an authorized Reserve Forces position in OSD for a period of no less than two years, on or after Jan 1, 1973, is entitled to permanent possession of the badge. Joint Chiefs of Staff Identification Badge This badge is awarded to military personnel who have been assigned to duty and have served not less than 1 year after Jan 13, 1961 in a position of responsibility under the direct cognizance of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The award ofthe badge must be approved by the Chairman, Joint Chiefs of Staff; the Director, Joint Staff; the head of a Directorate of the Joint Staff: or one of the subordinate agencies of the Organization of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
